About Dr. Knipper
A Waco native and 1976 graduate of Waco High School, Joe Knipper attended McLennan Community College and the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S. in Pharmacy) with highest honors. He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Rho Chi, and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Societies. Following graduation, Joe worked as a registered pharmacist for six years in the Tyler and surrounding East Texas area.
In 1986, he returned to medical school and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio in 1990. He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (A.O.A.) Medical Honor Society.Following a general medicine internship at the University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham, Dr. Knipper received his dermatology residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Hospital in Dallas. He is a 1994 graduate of that program, and served as chief resident during his final year of residency. Shortly thereafter, he opened his general dermatology practice in Waco. Since that time, Dr. Knipper has functioned as a solo practitioner, treating tens of thousands of patients over the course of his career.
Dr. Knipper is a 1994 diplomate (board certified dermatologist) of the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). He has also recertified twice by examination for 10-year periods with the ABD, with his current board certification valid through 2024. He is also a current participant in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program sponsored by the Board.
While trained in all areas of the specialty of dermatology, Dr. Knipper’s specific interests include evaluation and management of all types of skin cancer, precancerous lesions, benign lesions (moles, warts, cysts, vascular lesions, lipomas, keratoses), bacterial and fungal infections, and various rashes (poison ivy, shingles, rosacea, contact dermatitis, etc.) and teenage and adult acne. He has experience treating many patients over the course of his career with isotretinoin (Accutane).
Dr. Knipper and his wife, Eileen, reside in the greater Waco area. Their interests include exercising, hiking, gardening, and animal rescue. He is the son of Ed and Mary Knipper, also of Waco.
